TRIBAL BOHEMIA
Self-embellishment is seldom considered a spiritual practice - and yet, to me it has always been one of divine power, a sacred embodiment of something larger than my own physical presence. Jewelry carries a reflection of its wearer’s identity; it holds within it sentimentality only the owner can appreciate. Every time a new piece is made, it begins its individual journey, unique to only it alone. Each piece is passed down from owner to owner, borrower to borrower, recharging with a transcendent energy – an energy empowering its inheritor. My jewelry is a reflection of historical significance. I bring in the past to embellish my future. With each added cuff, with each added choker, I create a symbiotic relationship between history and modernity.
Tribal stacking has gained a steady following over the past couple years. Bloggers are arm partying, designers are neck stacking, and commercial retailers have definitely taken notice. Jewelry designers like Dannijo, with help from affluent fashion elite, have pioneered the stacking trend, taking it out of the context of historical fashion, and bringing it center stage for today’s trends. No longer are these pieces seen as style-specific, they have become mainstream.
More is more, unique is more, and more is unique.
