A Geisha's Secert

The Unlimited Magazine

Under the white powdered makeup, Geisha’s are known for having baby soft skin.  Skin that Victoria Tsai (founder of TATCHA skin care) has made obtainable to the western world.

In 2009, Tsai brought to us a line of gold lead blotting papers, and those glamorous little swipes did wonders; encouraged by geishas’ methods for absorbing oil without removing makeup. It was about time that Tsai created a line.

After years of research and making friends with Kyoto locals, Tsai was led to a 200-year-old text of beauty secrets, and a chance to meet a modern day Geisha.  The modern day Geisha altered her path. Their beautiful porcelain skin and beauty rituals have only been released from word of mouth, until Tsai translated the beauty manuscript. The text specified the conventional Kabuki makeup practices, as well as the Geisha’s skincare routines. Tsai learned the essentials of the Geisha skincare routine were green tea, rice, and red algae.

Another secret Victoria discovered is Japans use of gold.

Its occurrence is reflected as a mark of authenticity. TATCHA recently released the gold collection with gold flakes luminous in body oil and lip-gloss. You cannot get richer.

Victoria founded TATCHA as a way to share these beauty secrets with the rest of the world. However, Tsai is not finished with her explorations. She is still finding Asian home remedies to help us look and feel younger, like modern day geishas.

If you aren’t the woman I think you are, then this isn’t the world I thought it was.
